Sorting Game Free Printable

It has been a while since I haven't posted any printables on my blog. I have been creating worksheets and games like crazy, but didn't find the time to post the products on the blog.

At least I had time to use them with my kids :)

This resource can be used to teach basic vocabulary: fruit and vegetables (apple, cherries, raspberries, banana, lemon, quince, orange, grapefruit, grapes, lime, pear, kiwi, broccoli, beans, cabbage, celery, cauliflower, garlic, tomato, bell pepper, radish, carrot, pumpkin, corn). You can play all sorts of games with them: Which One Did I Hide?, Jump On It!, Twister With Words etc.

The flashcards can be used for sorting – by size (4 sizes included), by colour (orange, green, red, yellow, white), by type (fruit or vegetable).

I suggest printing the game on A4 paper, then laminating the flashcards for durability.

You can download the game by clicking here.

Cutting and Tracing Worksheets

I created some free tracing and cutting worksheets for kindergarteners. You can download them by clicking on the icon:

FREE Shape Recognition 2 Piece Puzzles

Apart from counting, recognizing numbers, decomposing numbers (1 to 19), subitizing, measuring, adding and subtracting, classifying objects, working with shapes is a very important aspect of teaching math in kindergarten.

Kids don’t just need to recognize basic shapes, but also to operate with them, for example:

  • to identify shapes,

  • to describe objects around them using names of shapes,

  • to build shapes from other objects (such as sticks, beads, playdough, buttons, etc.)

  • to analyze and compare two- and three-dimensional shapes

Before I studied preschool and primary school pedagogy, all these seemed odd to me. How can a kindergartener know so many things?! But kids learn very fast by doing: through pretend play, games, songs, rhymes, they are able to grasp concepts they wouldn’t by just observing the adults around.

Here’s a free game that you can download and then use to practice shapes:

It contains more shapes than kindergarteners need to know, but the pages can be printed separately.

FREE PRINTABLE Ten Frame

I use this ten frame to teach my kids subitizing. This means to be able to instantly recognize a quantity without counting.

Kids who learn how to subitize will be able to say how many objects there are in a jar/basket, how many fingers someone is holding up and, in time, they will also be able to calculate sums in their head. It is a very important skill for children.

I laminated this ten frame and the hearts, then cut them out. What I do is use blu tack to place hearts on the ten frame. Sometimes I choose the same number of hearts, but in different combinations (for example, 7= 4+3, 7=6+1, 7=5+2, etc.). Kids will understand that the same number can be decomposed in lots of ways.

Tips:

  • It is important to focus on the process, not on the result.

  • You can give them a couple of seconds to look at the ten frame, then hide it. It doesn’t give them enough time to count, but it might be better because it makes them see the groups of hearts, rather than the isolated hearts.

FREE Printables

It has been a while since I haven’t written a word…to be honest, I have been a bit too lazy. And sometimes it’s just much easier to work on printables for my shop or the FB page than to write articles on the blog. I feel bad for that, so that’s why I want to post some free printables for those of you who have kids at home or at work :)

Snowman Number Hop

This is a very easy movement game suitable for kids. It helps consolidate number recognition (1-10).

Rules: After printing the snowmen, spread them on the floor, all over the room. The teacher (or an older kid) calls out a number and the kids have to run to that number.

If you place the snowmen close to one another, then you can play the game with one kid at a time and he can hop from one number to another.
