Apple Prints with Autumn Colours
Materials: construction paper, apples, red, yellow, green, brown paint, a napkin
This is a great activity for younger kids: they practice their fine motor skills by applying the paint on the apple and then pressing the apples to make prints. Fine motor skills is one of the most important areas to improve with your young ones, because it constitutes the foundation children need before writing. The muscles in the hands need to be developed in order to properly use pencils and pens later on.
Painting with vegetables doesn’t require a lot of time to prepare, so it can be a suitable activity for when you’re in a hurry, but you have a couple of extra minutes. You can use potatoes, carrots, avocados, almost anything you have in the fridge. Just make sure they are not too juicy: wipe the vegetable/fruit with a napkin.
Another thing you can do is to use cookie cutters to make shapes out of potatoes, then paint with these.
